| Site Selection and Reef Deployment
Module Overview This module is intended
to include home study of Chapters 4 and 5 in the Handbook, which provides the academic
background. The classroom session introduces the students to the protocols and underwater
methods used for site selection, reef surveys, and water quality.
Classroom Objectives
At the completion of the Site Selection and Reef Deployment
module classroom session, the students should be able to:
- List seven types of data to be collected for artificial
reef site selection
- Explain three findings that might indicate that a site is
not acceptable for the intended deployment
- Demonstrate how to perform a circular sweep search, and
describe what should be done if a buddy team cannot complete the search
- Describe the methods used to characterize the sediment at
a potential reef site
- Demonstrate how to measure visibility by the standard
method
- Describe how to accurately measure temperature underwater
- Explain how to avoid common interferences when
