If your favorite dive shop or boating supply store does not have the JAXSPOTS Loran/GPS Guide in stock, please ask them to contact Phil Harville at: harvpt@bellsouth.net. The Loran and GPS numbers were collected by boat captains and the Jacksonville Reef Research Team from all over the North Florida area. Many of these sites' GPS or Loran numbers have been confirmed by the Jacksonville Reef Research Team. The maps are strictly to be used as an aid to find the dive and fishing sites in the Jacksonville area. They do not provide the accuracy of navigational maps and should never be used for this purpose. Underwater maps compiled from the Jacksonville Reef Research Team's monitoring dives and surveys are provide for some of the sites. Additional underwater maps were included in this revision, and will be included in future revisions of the JAXSPOTS guide. The Team will periodically update the guide. Please feel free to add to our collection and verification of site numbers by sending related information to: Jacksonville Reef Research Team Most of the offshore sites are actually Artificial Reefs. The Jacksonville Reef Research Team, a non-profit organization, is one of the first volunteer artificial reef study groups in the United States. Since 1986, the Jacksonville Reef Research Team has successfully collected data from Artificial Reefs. This non-profit organization strives to document the productivity of Northeast Florida's reefs and educate the public on its prized resource. Proceeds from the sale of this publication support the Jacksonville Reef Research Team's artificial reef monitoring and deployment activities. Reef Builders Northeast Florida has one of the largest and most successful reef building programs in the South. The Jacksonville Offshore Sport Fishing Club (JOSFC) has been the major force for this effort, with reef-building dating back to 1960. They also maintain many of the flagged buoys that designate some of the more popular sites. The Jacksonville Reef Research Team coordinates with the JOSFC, the City of Jacksonville, and the Department of Natural Resources to provide information on potential reef sites, as well as the monitoring and mapping of present reef sites.
